Legacy RadStar COM Port Error

If you receive a COM port error while trying to download your data, or are unable to select your Legacy RadStar from the COM port selection dropdown, there is most likely an issue with the driver that is currently installed for the legacy cable.

Windows will occasionally install more recent drivers that may cause this issue to occur again after having fixed it. The older driver recommended below will still be on the computer once installed, it just won’t be active. Skip to “Selecting an Installed Cable Driver” below.

Initial Driver Installation

  1. Download and install the recommended driver
  2. Reboot if prompted to
  3. Open the Device Manager (through the Windows Control Panel, or by right-clicking the Start button in Windows 10)
  4. Expand the Ports (COM & LPT) section
  5. Verify that there is no longer a yellow warning icon, and Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port is listed. Note the COM port number at the end of row for future reference.

Selecting an Installed Cable Driver
